WIA Eligibility Documentation Requirements

Identification (choose one):

• Colorado I.D. and signed Social Security Card
• School I.D. (17 and under), signed Social Security Card, and Birth Certificate

Income Documentation (choose one):

• TANF/Food Stamps - Arapahoe/Douglas Works! can provide documents.
• Supplemental Security Income - Social Security Documents.
• Homeless - A written statement from a homeless shelter, a written statement from individual providing residence, and/or self-attestation.
• Foster Child - Court documents or written statement from local agency stating you are a ward of the state.
• Disability - Medical records, letter from drug/alcohol rehabilitation agency, physician's/psychiatrist's/psychologist's statement, or school records (IEP).  All documents must be less than one year old.
• Family Six Month Income* - Social security cards and proof of income (pay stubs, letter from employer, W2). *If you are a homeless youth, foster child, youth with a disability, or are not claimed on parent taxes, you are considered a Household of One. Individual proof of income (for six months) and individual's Social Security Card are required to be eligible under Household of One.

Barrier (choose one):

• Youth Offender - Juvenile/criminal justice/court documents, a letter from parole/probation officer or police records.
• Pregnant/Parenting - A copy of child's birth certificate, a physician’s note, or a statement from a school program for pregnant teens.
• Foster Child - Court letter/court documents or a written statement from a state/local agency stating youth is ward of the state.
• Homeless/Runaway - A written statement from a homeless shelter, a written statement from individual providing residence, and/or a self attestation.
• Dropout - Self attestation and/or letter from school.
• Basic Skills Deficient - TABT Test
• Youth Needs Assistance - Self attestation specifying what youth needs assistance for.

Customer of the Month Recognition

Every month Arapahoe/Douglas Works’ Youth in Works! will vote for a customer of the month recipient. Customer of the Month recognizes youth who have gone above and beyond to contribute to our local economy and community at large. Recipients also exhibit exceptional work ethic in reaching educational and employment goals.

• Congratulations April Recipient, Sage!

  Sage, a 17 year old out of school youth entered the Youth in the Works Program determined to reach his goal of obtaining his GED.  In less than a month from his enrollment into the program, Sage took the necessary steps in accomplishing his goal.   Currently, Sage is very optimistic in his job search and the opportunities that will be presented to him in the future.  Sage exemplifies dedication to success and in recognition of his accomplishments, Youth In the Works! recognizes Sage as the Youth In the Works! April 2012 Youth of the Month.

Youth in the Works is also always seeking adult volunteers to present to youth about their career, as well as teach workshops on valuable job search or work-readiness skills.

If you plan to hire youth for summer or year-round jobs, please consider hosting a private hiring event at the workforce center to recruit for those openings, or join any of the multi-employer hiring events that we have planned throughout the year.



Join Our Youth Council

Youth in the Works! is supported by an active Youth Council whose mission is to enhance, through leadership and strategic alliance, employment opportunities and services to youth within our community. If you’re interested in attending or participating on our youth council, please get in touch with us!

Youth in the Works! is a resource within the Arapahoe/Douglas Works! workforce center that offers no-cost services to young people. We offer an array of tools to support young job-seekers, as well as provide academic support, career counseling, and training assistance to help youth reach their potential and make informed decisions about their futures.

Youth Resource Center

The Youth Resource Center is a resource room customized to meet the needs of youth job-seekers. The drop-in center features computers with internet access, fax and copy machines, courtesy phones, reference materials and access to youth-friendly job postings and hiring events. On-site youth counselors also offer résumé assistance, interview coaching and help direct youth to workshops or programs that meet their needs

Our youth programs focus on the core elements of youth success: career counseling, academic support, leadership development, mentoring, basic skills assessments, and workplace preparation. If you aren’t sure whether you should look for a job, finish your education or pursue a higher degree, you should know…you’re NOT ALONE!  Youth in the Works! is here to help.  We offer a variety of services, from self-assessments to mentoring and career counseling, to help you make informed decisions about your future.

Our on-site counselors can meet with you at the resource center to assess where your skills and interests might fall into an industry or career path. We can help you understand what level of education might be necessary to meet your career goals, and what employers are looking for in a future employee.

If you determine that additional education is what you need, Youth in the Works! can help you prepare to earn your GED, get hands-on skills training, and access the resources you need to be successful.

It could be you’re hesitating out of fear of the unknown, and that’s okay!  Even if you’ve never worked before, you’re not sure what a resume should include, and you have never been on a job interview, our workshops will break down the process into manageable basics and help you conquer your doubts of becoming a successful adult.  Contact Youth In the Works and we'll help you through this process.
